SchrekNet is a private network that only appears for Kindred characters. It gives players a place to communicate through clan channels, public discussions, private groups, and official messages from the city’s leadership.
However, the goal is not just to create an in-game chat application. SchrekNet needs to understand the character using it, what clan they belong to, which sect they support, and what political authority they hold.
More Than an In-Game Discord
At first glance, SchrekNet functions like a dark, simplified version of Discord.
Players see a list of channels on the left, messages in the center, and their account information within a side panel or menu. The interface uses black and dark gray backgrounds, red accents, and an old-internet style intended to make the network feel secretive and encrypted.
Underneath that interface, SchrekNet is connected directly to the server’s character system.
The app checks whether the active character is Kindred before it appears on the tablet. It also reads information from the character sheet, including the character’s clan, name, ID, and other permissions.
A Toreador character might automatically see:
#toreador-announcements
#toreador-chat
A Malkavian would instead receive access to their own clan channels.
The player cannot manually select or spoof their clan. That information comes from the approved character sheet.
Creating a SchrekNet Identity
Characters must create an account before they can begin posting.
The account requires a public username, password, and sect tag. The account name becomes the identity shown beside every public message, allowing characters to communicate without automatically revealing their real names.
Passwords must be securely hashed and never stored as readable text.
Once logged in, players can change their password, log out, or request assistance from staff if they lose access to the account.
SchrekNet accounts are part of the roleplay world, but the account system still needs the same security standards expected from a real application.
Sect Tags and Political Identity
During account creation, the player selects one of three sect tags:
- Anarch
- Camarilla
- Independent
The choice is intended to represent the character’s current political affiliation. Once selected, the player cannot freely change it.
Instead, they must submit a request containing their current tag, requested tag, reason for the change, and the time of the request.
Authorized characters can then review it. A Baron may manage Anarch tag changes, while a Harpy may manage Camarilla changes. SchrekNet administrators can manage tags for any account.
Every change is permanently logged, including the old tag, new tag, character affected, person who approved it, and when it occurred.
This prevents sect membership from becoming a cosmetic label that players change whenever it is convenient. It remains connected to the political roleplay happening within the city.
